Life Update + Q&A | Dating, Moving, & Backup Plans

Live For The Moments You Can’t Put Into Words.

Hello Everyone! As everything you have seen (with the exception of the Life On Pointe Summer Series) for the past month and a half has been completely pre-filmed and pre-written, I feel like I haven’t spoken to you all in ages! I’ve missed writing, filming, talking to you guys through a camera. I hope you’re having an absolutely wonderful August so far!

Today I wanted to bring you a little life update as well as a FAQ’s & Answers post! As you all know, I’ve pretty much gotten back from summer intensive about a week ago, and I took time to relax and rejuvenate before the new season starts. I made a schedule, a daily routine, and spent a lot of time organizing all areas of my life: dance, work, and blogging. I’ve decided to spend more time with my friends and family, cut back on the stress and not take life so seriously, in the sense that I’m not going to stress the little things.

My dance schedule has changed slightly, my school schedule is much different to last year’s as I am a senior in high school (OMG!!), and my work schedule is very different as well. My blogging schedule will change slightly as well, with Life On Pointe Episodes airing on Monday’s at 3:15pm and Lifestyle posts going up on Wednesday’s at 12pm. If I am Vlogging, I will put those up on Tuesday’s and/or Saturday’s at 11am. So, that’s the new schedule for the year.

As far as what I’m studying for dance this year, I am going to be re-taking my Advanced II exam, so I will be training for that. I am also going to be at Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) this year (OMG!!) competing there, and I may have a couple other performances during the year as well. I’m quite excited this year.

That’s a brief update of what’s going on, so now, let’s get into the Q&A section of the post!

Q) What Is Your  Ring For? / Why Do You Wear It?

A) I wear what’s called a purity ring, which my parent’s got me a while ago. Purity has always been such a huge thing for me, and I took a vow to not have sex until marriage (or the term ‘stay pure’) when (I think) I was about eleven or twelve. And no, my parents did not make me, I made the choice myself.

Q) Are You Moving To LA?

A) Nope! And this has been a recent question asked by several people, especially when I wrote a Facebook post recently about my teachers asking me to move to LA. I’m not going anywhere for a while!

Q) What Is Your Secret To Flawless Makeup?

A) #1, My Custom Blend Foundation, #2, correct application, #3, powder. Because I’m extremely oily, powdering is a must for me. I’ll leave my Flawless Face Routine here!

Q) What Are Your Tips For Dancing On Your Period?

A) Girl, I know the struggle is REAL!!! For me, I tend to have the worst periods ever, with awful menstrual cramps and sometimes throwing up, plus, periods are a pain, especially when you’re a ballet dancer (or dancer in general). Tampons are great if you can handle them, but I hate them so I wear high cut briefs under my leotard and tights and wear a pad. As for cramping and vomiting situations, Advil or Ibuprofen is great. Drinking lots of water helps and avoiding super salty foods also really help with the water retention. Hope this helps!

Q) What Is Your Favorite Food?

A) Gosh, I don’t really have a favorite… I’ve always said Italian food but I really like food in general, so, yeah. LOL I’ll stick to my trusty Italian.

Q) What Is Your Favorite Season and Why?

A) AUTUMN FOR SURE!!! I love the cooler weather, the chunky sweaters and comfort that it brings me. Also, I love the idea of fall. I’m in SoCal, so it’s really hot here most of the time and doesn’t really cool off until December (boo that), and the leaves don’t really change color, but I can’t wait to live somewhere where Autumn is actually Autumn.

Q) Dating Advice???

A) HAHA- this is a very loaded question! Here’s my thing: I’m not dating until I’m 18, and again, my parents did not make me do this, it’s a choice I’ve made. I personally don’t think I need to be worrying about finding love when I’m this young. Also, I am more of what people would call a “serious dater,” meaning I’m not dating just for fun. I can hang out with people “just for fun.”

I will say this: if you decide you want to date, figure out why you like this person, and “just because” or “because I’m in love” is not a legitimate answer. Make a list of things you like and/or love about this person, such as qualities, looks, personality, etc. Write down habits that this person has that you like and don’t like or get a weird feeling about. It will save you a lot of heartache. Also, be sure you’re ready to date. I mean, everyone thinks their ready to date (especially teenagers, and since I am one, I can say that for sure), but really question yourself and figure out why you want to date. I could go on and on, so if you want me to write up a blogpost on this topic, let me know!

Q) Why Is It So Important For You To Spend Time With God?

A) Also a very loaded question. I spend time with God for several reasons. #1, I find a complete difference in my mood and perspective if I don’t. #2, I want to cultivate a relationship with God because I want to be a friend of God. I don’t want a shallow relationship where I just go to church and say I’m a Christian, I want more than that. #3, Because God is so good, I can’t get enough of His presence! And that’s just a few reasons why.

Q) What Pointe Shoes Do You Wear?

A) Recommended by one of my teachers, I wear the Suffolk Stellar Pointe Shoes! They are so flattering on my feet and they are as comfortable as  a pointe shoe can possibly get. I like them so much better than my former Russian Pointe’s.

Q) Do You Have A Boyfriend?

A) Nope!

Q) (Last Question!) What Is Your Backup Plan In Case Ballet Doesn’t Work Out?

A) Great question! If it doesn’t work out, I will go to fashion school, continue blogging, and teach ballet. I’ve thought about it since my uncle told me it’s always wise to have something to fall back on! (Thanks Uncle Ethan!)

Alright guys, I know this blogpost is really long, but I hope you enjoy it! If you have any questions, please leave them down in the comment section and I’ll do another post when I have enough questions! I really had fun writing this post and answering your guys’s questions. I love you all, and I’ll see you Monday!

Sunset Halo Smokey Eye & Glossy Red Lip

Hello Everyone!

Today I am bringing you this very dramatic red and copper smokey eye. I think this eyeshadow look is great if you have an evening event or a dramatic makeup look perfect for the transition from summer to autumn. I love wearing golds and reds on my eyes because it really makes the eyes stand out. Let’s get started!

I’m going to start off with my eyes first today to eliminate any chances of my face makeup getting completely ruined. For the first shade, I went in with this extremely old Lorac palette which is no longer available and went in with the bright coral shade, but you can also go in with an orange shade as well (another option I love here). I went into my Motives Elements Color Box and layered the shade Native right on top of that coral shade. With a more precise brush, we’re going into the shade Bordeaux and applying this heavily in the outter corner and inner corner blowing it out in the crease, doing our best to keep the center of the lid free from the dark shadows.

Next I went into my custom blend shadow in Diamond White and placed this only on the center of the lid. Any bright white shade or pigment will do, just be sure to spritz your brush with some water or a setting spray. Then I’ll go back with the shade Bordeaux and blend out the edges so there are no harsh lines. Then I went into my Lorac Pro Palette cuz it’s the only palette I have with gold shadows, and I took both the color Gold & Lt. Bronze and pressed this on top of that white shade on the center of the lid. The white shade underneath basically helps the gold shadow pop a bit more than if you didn’t have it. Again, I’ll blend out the edges with Bordeaux. Finally, we will apply some eyeliner (I used the Tarte Waterproof Gel Liner) to the top lash line.

I moved onto the face before finishing up the eyes and I used my favorite Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation and mixed it with my darker La La Liquid Foundation to customize my perfect shade and blended this all over my face. I went in with a concealer as well (which is not available on the site, but I’ll link my favorite here) and I also powdered my face with the Motives Luminous Loose Powder.

I did my brows using the BareMinerals Brow Powder and the ABH Clear Brow Gel in the same way I always do. I used a cream colored shadow stick to use as a cream color for my waterline (BIG MISTAKE!!!) and my eyes started watering and glowing red after I was done filming, so I’ll link my favorite Motives Kohl Liner instead and I can guarantee it will be far more pleasant to wear throughout the day.

For the lower lash line, I pressed Bordeaux right up against the lower lash line and smoked it out with that coral/orange shade. I then used my favorite Motives Fiber Lush Mascara and applied this to my lashes. For contour, I used the bronzer in the Motives I Do Palette, but I should’ve used the shade Native from my Elements Palette (money saving hack!). For blush, I used the shade Glee from BareMinerals (they don’t have it anymore, here’s a different blush). For highlight, I used Vows from the I Do Palette (I’ll link a similar single highlighting shade here). I popped the highlight right on the inner corners of the eyes, on the cheekbones, and on the tip of the nose.

For lips, I used the Motives All Day Stay Liquid Sticks in the shade Seduction and it actually feels like a melted down lipstick. It’s a stunningly opaque color and is glossy and vibrant, perfect for a dramatic look such as this.

There we have it! I absolutely love this look and think it is so great for a number of occasions. I hope you guys enjoyed it! I love you all, and I’ll see you soon!

Hey guys!!!

It’s over! Four weeks ago, I was waiting outside the studio, imagining my fourteen year old self walking in and meeting new people, discovering a new studio, and being taught by new teachers. After taking a quick walk down memory lane, I walked in, greeted my teachers, hugged my friends, and felt like I was home.

Now, it’s the day after the entire intensive ended, and wow, where did the time go? In that time, however, I really am so proud of how much I’ve improved. I am so excited about going back, but I’m also really happy to have a break and to be finally home.

I did overstretch the top of my right foot during the last partnering class when my foot folded under me and sent me to the floor. I feel a lot better now than I did yesterday as I performed ‘Jumping Girl’ by Balanchine from his ballet ‘Who Cares?’ solo, but it’s still bothering me, so this week I will be nursing my bruises, blisters, and VERY minor injury.

This week felt so amazing, starting off the mornings right with either yoga, pilates, or posture & placement. Classes with the master teachers was so amazing, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot on how to evenly spread out my energy and not waste so much of it. We alternated between pointe and variations and pas de deux, where we worked with former professional dancers from New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre. After lunch, we had character or contemporary.

This week, I felt really good, and when my Dad came to watch, he filmed some clips from classes. I watched a few of them, and I was really happy with how it looked. Even though that day I felt extra weak and started my period right before the next class (every ballerina’s worst nightmare), I was proud of how I danced despite how I felt.

Thank you to everyone who helped send me here, to the incredible Los Angeles Ballet Academy for an incredible time, to my grandparents for hosting us, and to my parents, who made this entire experience possible. Thank you to all of you who have watched and read and kept up with these episodes, for supporting me, and making me feel so incredibly loved. I love you all, and I’ll see you Wednesday!

Morning Routine | Summer Edition

Hello everyone!
I am so excited to bring you all my morning routine. It doesn’t really change season to season, so this routine is pretty standard for every single day. For the summer, I am away and living in LA for a month for my summer intensive training, so rather than starting work right away, I’ll be leaving for my intensive classes. Anyways, I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s begin!

When I first wake up in the morning, it’s usually at 5:30 or 6:00 A.M. and I’ll start by shutting off my alarm and oddly the first thing I do is check my emails. I don’t know why. After shutting off my phone, I’ll turn on some worship music and devote an hour to spending time with God and reading the bible. At the moment I have been reading a lot of Daniel and Matthew, however I’ve also been reading a proverb daily. Starting my day with Jesus is so important and I find a huge difference in my mood and perspective if I don’t spend time with Him.

Around 7:00 A.M. I’ll make my bed and head into the kitchen to make my vitamin cocktail, if you will. I use the Isotonix products and they are so great. My morning cocktail includes the Multi-Vitamin, OPC-3, Calcium Plus, and Advanced B-Complex to give me some extra energy. Once I chug that down, I will make some breakfast and a pot of coffee. This particular day I made cheesy-scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. I would’ve done avocado and put the eggs on top, but I ran out of avocado and I was really sad about it.

After breakfast, I’ll go into the bathroom and do my skincare routine. I use the Skintelligence line and mix it with the Lumiere Di Vie Serum Concentrate, which helps reduce acne, the Lumiere Di Vie Eye Cream, and the Timeless Prescription Anti-Blemish Lotion, which I mentioned in my June Favorites.

After I take a quick shower and get my hair out of the way, I will sit down and do my makeup. I applied my custom blend foundation (link to my second favorite foundation), my Motives Creme Concealer in Peach to my blemishes, my LaLa Liquid Foundation under my cheekbones for a glowy-bronzed look, the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector to my cheekbones, the Motives Luminous Loose Powder to my t-zone, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette to set my bronzer and highlight, the Motives Pressed Blush to the apples of my cheeks, the Pure Cosmetics Nude Palette (literally the same exact as the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette) to my eyes, the Motives Fiber Lush Mascara to my lashes, the Motives Kohl Liner in my waterline, my BareMinerals Brow Powder and the ABH Clear Brow Gel, and my BareMinerals Gen Nude Liquid Lip Color in Boss to my lips.

I will then take a look at my fragrances and today I picked one of my favorite every-day scents, the Philosophy Pure Grace scent, which smells like fresh morning air mixed with clean laundry. It smells so lovely.

I will then get dressed, and this was my outfit of choice. I will also put on my accessories of choice and then I’m good to go! As I said earlier, I will either start school or work (depending on the day) or, as I am a part of a summer intensive trainer, will leave for training.

That’s it! I hope you guys enjoyed this blogpost. If you would like to watch the routine, the video is linked down below! I love you guys very much, and I hope you have a beautiful rest of your week!

LIFE ON POINTE Episode 3 | Summer Edition

Partner: Gabe Salazar

Hey Everyone! I cannot believe we are 3/4’s done with this intensive! In some ways, it has flown by, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been hard and long days.

This week, we had a mix of yoga, cardio, and pilates all in the early morning as our warm up, and I have to say as I’ve done this every day for three weeks, it’s gotten so much easier. It’s still hard, but it isn’t as painful, the soreness isn’t as prominent, and I actually feel stronger when I do it.

For ballet classes this week, I did have a day where I sat out. I was having incredibly sharp pains in my stomach and every step I took was so painful. I did do a bit of contemporary that day, but it still was prominently painful. I did learn a lot by sitting and watching, but when I did dance, I learned that I use way too much energy in certain movements that don’t require as much force or energy. It helped me dance from a place of relaxation rather than horrible tenseness in every muscle, and I wasn’t as tired at the end of class.

We had character for two days, and to be honest, it wasn’t my favorite. I found myself a bit bored, although I did do the movements which our teacher said was nice.

We had contemporary for the rest of the week, and it was amazing. The teacher had us improv the entire class, and then she gave us tasks to use in our improv. We had to create letters using our bodies, and we came up with some pretty cool stuff. We got paired up for “duets” that were not meant to go together, but there was one particular couple that was so amazing, I actually cried watching it. It was so beautiful, so moving, and somehow so in sync with each other; keep in mind that they’d never seen each other’s pieces as well. UGH!!! I actually have chills thinking about it.

Pas De Deux on Friday was really hard! Our teacher was different, and his combinations were so much harder. At the end, he told us we were going to do a flying fish from the ground. I wasn’t able to capture the full thing, but I started on the ground, and my partner’s job was to pull me up and “throw me,” all while I jumped. I would be in the air for a split second before he’d catch me, and he did, which, we were both impressed that we nailed it. It was terrifying at first, but once we got the coordination, made the eye contact, and rode the same wavelength, we nailed it four more times.

We had four variation classes as well, and we learned the Tchaikovsky Variation from the Tchaikovsky Pas De Deux, which is my favorite variation of all time. We also learned the Sylvia Variation, which is all relevés and hops on pointe, which was actually really painful. My toes were so numb after that variation, it hurt more that when my feet were in the shoes.

This week overall was a fun week, and I hope you enjoyed watching this episode! I love you all, and I’ll see you next week for the Summer Finale!

July Favorites 2017

Hello Everyone! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful July and are enjoying your summer! How has it been so far? Let me know down in the comment section! Once again, it is time for me to share with you my July favorites.

I’m going to start off with skincare since I’ve been wearing almost no makeup for the last month. I’ve been switching between different skincare routines and products, but I think I’ve finally found the one for me. I’ve been using the Skintelligence Skincare Line  and my skin has cleared out so much. I’ve also been loving the Timeless Prescription Anti Blemish Lotion  which I mentioned in last month’s June Favorites.

Next I’ll talk about the makeup that I’ve been wearing when I do wear makeup. I’ll start off with the eyeshadow that I got for my birthday and love every single time I wear it. It is the Motives Pressed Shadow in the shade Bedroom Eyes. It’s a gorgeous shimmer, more foiled than not, but it is stunning. It is perfect for a sexy smokey eye and also for all over the lid on less glamorous days.

The next makeup item is a highlighter, and it is GORGEOUS!!! It is the Motives Shimmer Powder in the shade Starshine, which is a golden highlighter.  You guys know that I love highlights, especially ones with golden undertones. This highlight will be gorgeous for every skin tone and color, and I am in love with it.

The last makeup item is the Motives Moisture Rich Lipstick in the shade Incognito. It is a stunning nude. It is such a perfect color, not too brown, but not too pink, not too deep, but not too light. I have been wearing it every single day since I got it on my birthday.

Last thing I’m going to mention is a perfume my friend got me for my birthday. It is the Pacifica Persian Rose Roller Ball Perfume which, at first, I wasn’t sure about since rose scented fragrances tend to not mix with my body chemistry, but it is an amazing scent and lasts so long on my body, and that’s coming from a girl who’s dancing about six hours daily. It’s a beautiful scent. Thanks Gabe, you have great taste in scents.

And that is it for my June Favorites! I hope you guys enjoyed it, and please, leave me a comment down below letting me know what your favorite things have been recently! I love you guys, and I’ll see you guys soon!

Los Angeles Ballet Academy Summer Intensive Update: Week 2

Featuring: Gabriel Ramirez (a.k.a. partner #7)

Hey Guys! So, my level and I survived week 2! We had eleven (in total) this week in our (red) level, and it was really awesome.

We had several toning and strengthening classes this week, such as pilates, yoga, cardio (which was supposed to be belly dancing [so glad we didn’t], but she got sick), and injury prevention. I think that one was my favorite. We learned techniques on how to help relieve the tenseness in our muscles and joints and also how to help each other properly release tension and tightness.

Each morning ballet class, our teachers rode our tails, which is what they’re supposed to do of course, but you feel it a lot more when there are less people. We had several different teachers, and for pointe it was the same. Some days I had the satisfaction of nailing triple pirouettes on pointe, and some days I fell over. It happens!

For Pas De Deux (partnering), it was very difficult, at least for me. I partnered one of the days with my master teacher, and discovered my weaknesses. The other times I partnered with two other partners/friends of mine, and some of the exercises were good, and some of them were terrible. It’s all a learning experience, and as long as you learn something, that’s what’s important.

Three of the five days we had Flamenco, which was actually very difficult. I have great respect now for flamenco dancers and their ability to coordinate and perform with such precision and clarity. The other two days we had contemporary, which was actually really fun. Our teacher made up a really cool combo and I loved performing it about thirteen times (in total).

This week overall was really good. For whatever reason, I was mentally and physically exhausted and drained, feeling really sleepy pretty much every day. But, I’m happy to be home for a day and a half to get some true rest and rejuvenation.

Summer Look Book

Videography & Photography By: Michelle Ju (Instagram: juju_jubile)

Hello Everyone! I really love fashion, and I don’t do enough posts about it, but I’m here now, and you’re going to be seeing a lot of fashion posts in the future. This is just some outfit inspiration, as all of these items are out of stock, but I’m sure you guys will find outfits that you love based on these looks. Without further-a-do, let’s get into my Summer Look Book.

Look #1: Casual + Summery

This is a super casual look that you can wear pretty much everywhere. It’s a very low-key, chill outfit to go hang out with friends in. The coral tank top is a little more “dressy” than a regular t-shirt, but it’s really cute and comfortable and most importantly, when living in 100F+ degree heat, it must be breathable. I added these little shorts and converse, along with my white leather & rose gold watch.

Look #2: Beach Perfection

I love maxi dresses in the summertime, and this particular one with it’s peachy colors and neutral bodice is perfection. It’s probably one of (if not, the) most worn dress in my wardrobe. I’ve had it (I kid you not) since my 8th grade graduation, which was three years ago. Apparently I stopped growing…

I paired this look with my Jook&Nona “Happy” necklace and these big gold & pink drop earrings. Now, these earrings are very heavy and definitely tug at the lobes a bit, however I thought it was perfect with this dress and I don’t really mind. I tied the whole look together with these tightly-curled beachy waves and simple white strappy sandals.

Look #3 Evening Summer Party

As the nights cool down and the evening parties begin, this black dress is quite fun and flirty for a more dressy summertime party. The sunset lighting will reflect beautifully off the sequins, and the pop of cobalt blue is absolutely stunning with this look. This look can be paired with nearly any kind of accessory, but I chose to pair with with a black beaded clutch, perfect to fit my Vlogging camera, my phone, and my card holder. It’s a fun, beautiful look and also, you can never go wrong with a little black dress.

That is everything for this post! I really hope you guys enjoyed it and find inspiration for your summer activities! I love you guys lots, and I’ll see you guys soon!

Los Angeles Ballet Academy Summer Intensive Update: Week 1

What an amazingly hard week it has been!

So, as you all know (or at least, you should know!), I have been in Los Angeles for the last week and I’ll be there for the next three weeks as well for the Los Angeles Ballet Academy summer intensive and boy, was it intense this week!

The first day was great. There were only seven (technically six, long story) people in our level, which we were all excited about but we were also thinking, “Oh shoot, we’re going to die.” Tuesday came and all of us were so freaking sore, to the point where I’m not sure I’ve been that sore in years. We had an amazing week of pilates, ballet, contemporary, and jazz with some amazing teachers. Believe me when I say they worked us.

I’m so looking forward to tomorrow!!! You’ll know why next week! But I hope you all enjoy the first summer episode of Life On Pointe! I love you guys, and thank you all for the support!

17 | The Best Day

I’m 17!!! Whoop whoop!

Honestly, I’ve rewritten this post more than three times. The first time was too emotional for my liking, then the other few times I wrote it I hated it. I called my best friend and asked in a dramatic and desperate tone, “What am I doing wrong?! Why isn’t this working?” In short, he laughed at me (typical in our friendship) and told me to stop overthinking.

So now, here I am! When I woke up this morning, I didn’t feel like it’s just another year like I’ve felt the last several years. I felt like there’s something about this next year that’s going to be really special. I don’t know what it’s related to yet- whether it’s going to be through some of the secret projects I’m working on, whether it’s building and strengthening my relationships with my friends and family, or maybe it’s through other things. Either way, it’s going to be a good year.

One of my goals is to be happy this year. It’s so easy to get caught up in all the chaos and drama and stress of life and it’s easy for me to become so anxious, but this year I don’t want to be living from a place of fear and anxiety.  I’m so excited for what the next year brings.

July 12

It was a wonderful day. My Mom and Dad arranged a surprise and my Dad visited me at the dance studio right before classes started. I got to see my big brother as well, which was absolutely wonderful. My parents presented me with a little birthday treat and I continued with my full day of classes.

My friends and teachers at this intensive made my birthday absolutely wonderful. I’m so thankful to have spent my birthday with some of the best people, learning and working hard to improve the art of dance. Thank you to my friends and teachers for making the day so incredible. My best friend FaceTimed me for a short time during lunch, I got several wishes from you guys on all my socials, and it was all around a really good day.

After the intensive classes were done, my Mom picked me up and I came home, took a shower, freshened up, and got dressed. My grandparents treated me and the rest of my family for dinner.

I wanted to say thank you for making my 17th so special. I’ll cherish the memories from being 16, but now, I’m so excited to now be 17, excited for the future, excited for the events to come.

I love you all!
