LIFE ON POINTE | Season 2 | Episode Three

Hey guys! This week was my first week back in full force! Monday I had an amazing class and partnered up with one of my favorites for pas de deux. I did wake up the next morning with bruises on my ribs, back, and a couple on my thighs from doing crazy lifts. I had my first private coaching session with Mr. Pegler of the new 2017-2018 season, and I was extremely sore after. I went straight to my next class with Ms. Jana and moving helped me feel less sore, but the next day, I could feel the lactic acid just sitting on my muscles. It was so painful, I had to take an ice bath to numb the pain. Of course, I made sure I took proper care of myself.

Thursday wasn’t my best day. With all the soreness and a bit of a stressful day, my head wasn’t exactly in the best headspace and my body just didn’t want to do anything. I did better than what I’d felt that day, if that makes any sense.

My Workout Routine

BE THE STRONGEST, SMARTEST, AND HEALTHIEST VERSION OF YOURSELF.

Hello Everyone! Today I’m showing you guys my workout routine. I’ve gotten several requests from you all to show you guys an updated workout. This routine has a bit of everything, and I do this on the day’s I don’t go for my 45 minute run. So let’s get exercising!

THE EXERCISE ROUTINE: CARDIO

  1. 20 Jumping Jacks
  2. Ten Reverse Lunges (Per Side) w/ Added Weights (3-5 lbs.)
  3. 8 Jumping Lunges *Optional: Added Weights (3-5 lbs.)
  4. 8 Plank Curls (Per Side) w/ Added Weights (3-5 lbs.)
  5. 8 Push Ups + Plank Rotations w/ Added Weights (3-5 lbs.)
  6. 20 Jumping Jacks
  7. 10 Squat Jumps
  8. Repeat This Section

THE EXERCISE ROUTINE: AB’S 

  1. 10 Regular Crunches
  2. 10 Pulses
  3. 10 Crunches Towards the Right & Repeat to the Left
  4. 10 Crunches (on an Exercise Ball or repeat regular crunches 20x)
  5. 8 Half Pikes (using Exercise Ball)

LIFE ON POINTE | Episode 2 | Season 2

Hey guys! As you guys know, there was no Life On Pointe episode last week due to my being sick for two weeks, and also, Labor Day. For not dancing for two weeks, I feel like I did pretty well this week. However on Thursday, I told my teacher that I didn’t remember the last time pointe shoes felt that painful. It was difficult, but I did it. Sometimes you gotta just push through it!

My Tips For Stress Relief

SELF LOVE IS GIVING THE WORLD THE BEST OF YOU, NOT THE REST OF YOU.

Happy September everyone! I cannot express to you how much joy I have knowing that it is September. I absolutely love that we are so near Autumn. Plus, I could really do with some cooler weather right about now. Anyways, today I am going to be bringing you my tips for stress relief. I feel like as the season is changing and we have all started school and summer is basically over, our lives suddenly become really stressful, but it doesn’t have to be!

Meditation is such a great way to relieve stress. I do this when I feel totally down and depressed and overwhelmed with everything I have to do. You don’t need to take an hour, all you need is five or ten minutes. On your break at lunch, just take five or ten minutes to pop in your headphones and relax your mind. Don’t think about everything that you have to do or whatever is going on, just focus on your breathing. I find this really helps me reset my mind, helping me realize that my problem or my to-do list is not bigger than me.

Exercise may sound totally ridiculous, but actually, exercise is an amazing way to relieve stress and release negative emotions. I don’t know what it is about exercise, but it helps totally clear my mind. Whether I decide to do a 20 minute cardio workout or a 45 minute run or ever a nice walk around the block, I find that when I exercise when I’m feeling stressed and I need a break, it causes me to somehow relax and feel really good about myself. I understand that most people can’t drop whatever they’re doing to go exercise, but if you have time before work or after your day is done, try and get in some exercise. I think too it gives me a sense of accomplishment after I’ve completed a really good workout, so even if I didn’t complete everything on my to-do list, I still got in a great workout.

After a long day, it’s always a good idea to give yourself a good Pamper Session, especially after you’ve been on your feet all day and you’ve been going going going. I don’t do a pamper session every night, but I do one at least twice a week. Do you have a face mask you’ve been saving for a special occasion? Pull it out! Grab the body butter you don’t ever use, put some bubbles in your bath, light some candles and give yourself some ambient lighting.

Having a good spa night is an excellent way to relax, and there are so many different playlists on Spotify for calming and/or spa music. You can even turn on a good TV show or a movie. Read a book you haven’t gotten around to reading yet. A pamper session is one of those times to fully recharge and enjoy yourself. It’s my personal favorite way to unwind and destress.

Organizing, Scheduling, and Making Lists is one of the best ways to be proactive at relieving stress. If I am not organized or scheduled or if I’m not in a good routine, I am all over the place, overwhelmed, depressed, and stressed, which is the reason I have gray hairs and fine lines under my eyes. Creating a schedule for yourself will, yes, take a bit of time, but it is so worth it.

I have scheduled my entire day, from the time I wake up at 5:30 a.m. to the time I go to bed between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. I’ve scheduled all the times I exercise, do housework, school, work, dance, and most importantly, recharge time. It has made me see that I do have a lot of time on my hands and if I follow the schedule to the best of my ability, it keeps me totally stress free.

Making Lists is also a must for me if I’m going to get stuff done. Apps that I would recommend for scheduling and making lists is Reminders, Notes, and Google Calendar. It may take time that you don’t want to spend creating a schedule and planning things out, but I promise it is totally worth it.

Letting It Out is probably one of the best ways to relieve stress. Don’t keep it in. I’ve found that if I suppress the emotion of feeling overwhelmed and stressed, I’m cranky, I start to panic, and I get incredibly anxious. So you can vent to a willing friend, or you can journal it. Keep a notebook in your bag with a pen ready to write when you can. Write what you want, and don’t think about what you’re writing. Just write. I like to “throw up on a page” and vent to the pages of my journal. Also, don’t forget to record the amazing memories you might have. I’ve been writing in journals for over eleven years now and one of my favorite things is looking back to relive memories, encourage myself, see how a particular problem or conflict resolved, and to see how far I’ve come.

Read A Book! Now, I know not everyone is a bookworm like I am, but if you have a spare ten or fifteen minutes, pull out a book and read. I love how you can completely escape your problems and be part of a story that you love, and it’s one of my favorite places to be in. Also, if you don’t have time to read a book, listen to an audiobook while you’re cleaning the house or paying bills or whatever. It makes it so much more enjoyable.

Lastly I love pulling out a really intricate Coloring Book  (or “adult” coloring book) with my fine point markers and perfectly color coordinated pencils and color a page. This was actually suggested by my mentor to help relieve my stress and remember to enjoy the little things, and I’m telling you I can lose literally four to five hours of time just coloring, it’s so meditative and therapeutic. So I set a timer for about fifteen to twenty minutes (if I have it) and color until the timer goes off. I think drawing is a great way as well, but I suck at drawing, so I prefer coloring.

I feel like we all deal with a bit of it, some more so than others. Also, don’t forget to enjoy the little things life brings, and hold onto those moments and cherish them. Be responsible, but don’t take life to seriously. Remember not to live too far in the future, and enjoy the now. It doesn’t last forever.

August Favorites | 2017

You Go Girl.

Hello everyone and welcome back to my monthly favorites! For some reason, I have a lot of products this month to get through, so let’s start before this intro gets a bit too long!

The first products are makeup products, and I’m going to try and get through the bullet points and reasons why I love them. The first thing I will talk about is my Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Paaarty. Yes, it’s spelled like that. It is a beautiful nude blush and goes with every makeup look, from natural every day to smokey nighttime looks. For someone who isn’t super into blushes, I have been wearing this blush every day that I’ve been wearing makeup.

The second product I will talk about is the Becca Glow On The Go kit in Opal, and I love both of these products. I wore them both nonstop throughout August. It has a rosy undertone and look stunning on the eyes, cheekbones, and lips. It gives you such a lit from within glow and I live for it.

The next products are all lip products I’ve been loving, and that would be the Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint in Birthday Suit, which is the most perfect nude I’ve ever worn and looks so perfect and natural, and is also one of the most comfortable matte lipsticks I’ve tried.

The second lip product is the Motives All Day Stay Liquid Mattes in Guava and for someone who doesn’t normally gravitate towards baby pink, I really like this shade and wear it pretty often. Again, it’s beautiful and comfortable to wear, is long lasting, and doesn’t flake off my lips.

The last one is a lipgloss, the Motives for LaLa Mineral Lip Shine in Celeb. On the website, it looks gritty and glittery, but in person, it’s not at all. It’s a lightly pigmented gloss and feels moisturizing on the lips. If you’re in the market for a new gloss, I highly recommend checking out this one.

Next up is brow products, and it was pointed out to me that despite the fact I mention these brow products basically every single makeup tutorial I ever do, I’ve never put them in a favorites video. Now, I am! I absolutely love my beloved BareMinerals Brow Powder. It lasts forever, #1, and #2, it’s a color that suits my brows perfectly; not too ashy, not too warm. And the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel, oh my goodness, is amazing. Jaclyn Hill said it best: it’s gorilla glue for your brows.

Moving on to Fashion pieces I’ve really been loving, I have been wearing this gold bracelet every day since I got back from summer intensive and I just love it. My dad got it for me and for whatever reason I’ve really been loving it recently. Also, gold jewelry in general as well, but in particular, my bracelet.

Shoes I’ve been loving are these sandals from Aldo which I got for my birthday, and they are so versatile, so timeless, and they go with everything, from a short summer dress to a business appropriate outfit. They’re clean, sleek, and timeless and I have been wearing pretty much anytime I have to leave my house.

The next two items are fashion pieces which were given to me by a lovely woman I go to church with, so thank you! This dress I’ve been wearing all throughout the summer, and I just had to put it into a favorites because it really is one of my summer staple pieces this year. Also, this white lace top is stunning. I can wear it with a pair of trousers, jeans, or a skirt and it looks lovely no matter how you wear it. I really love this piece and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing it quite a bit in the future.

My Stretching Routine

“Fall In Love With Taking Care Of Yourself.”

Hello Everyone! I hope you are having an absolutely amazing August so far! I am bringing you my stretching routine. As I just got back from intensive training not to long ago, I was introduced and reminded of stretches that are really amazing for freeing up your body. Here’s a routine I put together to show you of all my go-to stretches for before, during, and after classes or workouts.

A few good things you may want to consider buying that I could not live without when it comes to stretching is:

  1. Therabands
  2. Cross Balls + Tennis Balls + Golf Balls
  3. Foam Roller

You can get these items at target or online. They are extremely useful for massaging out tender areas, kinks, and sore muscles. I highly recommend you get them.

Life Update + Q&A | Dating, Moving, & Backup Plans

Live For The Moments You Can’t Put Into Words. 

Hello Everyone! As everything you have seen (with the exception of the Life On Pointe Summer Series) for the past month and a half has been completely pre-filmed and pre-written, I feel like I haven’t spoken to you all in ages! I’ve missed writing, filming, talking to you guys through a camera. I hope you’re having an absolutely wonderful August so far!

Today I wanted to bring you a little life update as well as a FAQ’s & Answers post! As you all know, I’ve pretty much gotten back from summer intensive about a week ago, and I took time to relax and rejuvenate before the new season starts. I made a schedule, a daily routine, and spent a lot of time organizing all areas of my life: dance, work, and blogging. I’ve decided to spend more time with my friends and family, cut back on the stress and not take life so seriously, in the sense that I’m not going to stress the little things.

My dance schedule has changed slightly, my school schedule is much different to last year’s as I am a senior in high school (OMG!!), and my work schedule is very different as well. My blogging schedule will change slightly as well, with Life On Pointe Episodes airing on Monday’s at 3:15pm and Lifestyle posts going up on Wednesday’s at 12pm. If I am Vlogging, I will put those up on Tuesday’s and/or Saturday’s at 11am. So, that’s the new schedule for the year.

As far as what I’m studying for dance this year, I am going to be re-taking my Advanced II exam, so I will be training for that. I am also going to be at Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) this year (OMG!!) competing there, and I may have a couple other performances during the year as well. I’m quite excited this year.

That’s a brief update of what’s going on, so now, let’s get into the Q&A section of the post!

Q) What Is Your  Ring For? / Why Do You Wear It?

A) I wear what’s called a purity ring, which my parent’s got me a while ago. Purity has always been such a huge thing for me, and I took a vow to not have sex until marriage (or the term ‘stay pure’) when (I think) I was about eleven or twelve. And no, my parents did not make me, I made the choice myself. 

Q) Are You Moving To LA? 

A) Nope! And this has been a recent question asked by several people, especially when I wrote a Facebook post recently about my teachers asking me to move to LA. I’m not going anywhere for a while! 

Q) What Is Your Secret To Flawless Makeup?

A) #1, My Custom Blend Foundation, #2, correct application, #3, powder. Because I’m extremely oily, powdering is a must for me. I’ll leave my Flawless Face Routine here! 

Q) What Are Your Tips For Dancing On Your Period?

A) Girl, I know the struggle is REAL!!! For me, I tend to have the worst periods ever, with awful menstrual cramps and sometimes throwing up, plus, periods are a pain, especially when you’re a ballet dancer (or dancer in general). Tampons are great if you can handle them, but I hate them so I wear high cut briefs under my leotard and tights and wear a pad. As for cramping and vomiting situations, Advil or Ibuprofen is great. Drinking lots of water helps and avoiding super salty foods also really help with the water retention. Hope this helps! 

Q) What Is Your Favorite Food?

A) Gosh, I don’t really have a favorite… I’ve always said Italian food but I really like food in general, so, yeah. LOL I’ll stick to my trusty Italian. 

Q) What Is Your Favorite Season and Why?

A) AUTUMN FOR SURE!!! I love the cooler weather, the chunky sweaters and comfort that it brings me. Also, I love the idea of fall. I’m in SoCal, so it’s really hot here most of the time and doesn’t really cool off until December (boo that), and the leaves don’t really change color, but I can’t wait to live somewhere where Autumn is actually Autumn. 

Q) Dating Advice???

A) HAHA- this is a very loaded question! Here’s my thing: I’m not dating until I’m 18, and again, my parents did not make me do this, it’s a choice I’ve made. I personally don’t think I need to be worrying about finding love when I’m this young. Also, I am more of what people would call a “serious dater,” meaning I’m not dating just for fun. I can hang out with people “just for fun.” 

I will say this: if you decide you want to date, figure out why you like this person, and “just because” or “because I’m in love” is not a legitimate answer. Make a list of things you like and/or love about this person, such as qualities, looks, personality, etc. Write down habits that this person has that you like and don’t like or get a weird feeling about. It will save you a lot of heartache. Also, be sure you’re ready to date. I mean, everyone thinks their ready to date (especially teenagers, and since I am one, I can say that for sure), but really question yourself and figure out why you want to date. I could go on and on, so if you want me to write up a blogpost on this topic, let me know!

Q) Why Is It So Important For You To Spend Time With God?

A) Also a very loaded question. I spend time with God for several reasons. #1, I find a complete difference in my mood and perspective if I don’t. #2, I want to cultivate a relationship with God because I want to be a friend of God. I don’t want a shallow relationship where I just go to church and say I’m a Christian, I want more than that. #3, Because God is so good, I can’t get enough of His presence! And that’s just a few reasons why. 

Q) What Pointe Shoes Do You Wear?

A) Recommended by one of my teachers, I wear the Suffolk Stellar Pointe Shoes! They are so flattering on my feet and they are as comfortable as  a pointe shoe can possibly get. I like them so much better than my former Russian Pointe’s. 

Q) Do You Have A Boyfriend?

A) Nope! 

Q) (Last Question!) What Is Your Backup Plan In Case Ballet Doesn’t Work Out? 

A) Great question! If it doesn’t work out, I will go to fashion school, continue blogging, and teach ballet. I’ve thought about it since my uncle told me it’s always wise to have something to fall back on! (Thanks Uncle Ethan!)

Sunset Halo Smokey Eye & Glossy Red Lip

Hello Everyone!

Today I am bringing you this very dramatic red and copper smokey eye. I think this eyeshadow look is great if you have an evening event or a dramatic makeup look perfect for the transition from summer to autumn. I love wearing golds and reds on my eyes because it really makes the eyes stand out. Let’s get started!

I’m going to start off with my eyes first today to eliminate any chances of my face makeup getting completely ruined. For the first shade, I went in with this extremely old Lorac palette which is no longer available and went in with the bright coral shade, but you can also go in with an orange shade as well (another option I love here). I went into my Motives Elements Color Box and layered the shade Native right on top of that coral shade. With a more precise brush, we’re going into the shade Bordeaux and applying this heavily in the outter corner and inner corner blowing it out in the crease, doing our best to keep the center of the lid free from the dark shadows.

Next I went into my custom blend shadow in Diamond White and placed this only on the center of the lid. Any bright white shade or pigment will do, just be sure to spritz your brush with some water or a setting spray. Then I’ll go back with the shade Bordeaux and blend out the edges so there are no harsh lines. Then I went into my Lorac Pro Palette cuz it’s the only palette I have with gold shadows, and I took both the color Gold & Lt. Bronze and pressed this on top of that white shade on the center of the lid. The white shade underneath basically helps the gold shadow pop a bit more than if you didn’t have it. Again, I’ll blend out the edges with Bordeaux. Finally, we will apply some eyeliner (I used the Tarte Waterproof Gel Liner) to the top lash line.

I moved onto the face before finishing up the eyes and I used my favorite Liquid Powder Mineral Foundation and mixed it with my darker La La Liquid Foundation to customize my perfect shade and blended this all over my face. I went in with a concealer as well (which is not available on the site, but I’ll link my favorite here) and I also powdered my face with the Motives Luminous Loose Powder.

I did my brows using the BareMinerals Brow Powder and the ABH Clear Brow Gel in the same way I always do. I used a cream colored shadow stick to use as a cream color for my waterline (BIG MISTAKE!!!) and my eyes started watering and glowing red after I was done filming, so I’ll link my favorite Motives Kohl Liner instead and I can guarantee it will be far more pleasant to wear throughout the day.

For the lower lash line, I pressed Bordeaux right up against the lower lash line and smoked it out with that coral/orange shade. I then used my favorite Motives Fiber Lush Mascara and applied this to my lashes. For contour, I used the bronzer in the Motives I Do Palette, but I should’ve used the shade Native from my Elements Palette (money saving hack!). For blush, I used the shade Glee from BareMinerals (they don’t have it anymore, here’s a different blush). For highlight, I used Vows from the I Do Palette (I’ll link a similar single highlighting shade here). I popped the highlight right on the inner corners of the eyes, on the cheekbones, and on the tip of the nose.

For lips, I used the Motives All Day Stay Liquid Sticks in the shade Seduction and it actually feels like a melted down lipstick. It’s a stunningly opaque color and is glossy and vibrant, perfect for a dramatic look such as this.

There we have it! I absolutely love this look and think it is so great for a number of occasions. I hope you guys enjoyed it! I love you all, and I’ll see you soon!
